BICC meeting with MBRC regarding Bellara foreshore erosion - 6/4/2011

On Wednesday April 6, Bribie Island Chamber of Commerce (BICC) President Rhonda Cockinos and Vice President Tim Pasqualone met with Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Cr Allan Sutherland and Division 1 Cr Gary Parsons, to discuss the erosion to the Bellara foreshore along Sylvan Beach Esplanade.

Our concerns were related to the maintenance of the revetment wall along the foreshore and the substantial loss of sand on the beach which is now directly effecting two iconic businesses on Bribie, Birbie Island Boat Hire and the Ferryman.

Cr Allan Sutherland and Cr Gary Parsons both noted that they were waiting for a Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP) from its consulting engineers, and that they are hoping to receive that by the end of this financial year. Cr Gary Parsons told the BICC that he had the funds available to rectify this situation once the SEMP was complete and state agency approvals were given.

Cr Allan Sutherland told the BICC that they will notify us when the SEMP has been received.

This photo was taken at the same spot on April 10, 2011.

We will continue to post updates regarding this issue as they unfold.
